Fear of the Unknown- I Would Be Brave

Fear of the Unknown- I Would Be Brave

October is a month full of fear and scary things. Today, Oct 31, is the day that usually culminates all those fears. Most people allow themselves to be scared during this time, which I never understand, since I hate the feeling of being scared. Being scared of the unknown or fearful of what is around the next corner doesn't sound enjoyable or fun. If I am being honest with myself about those fearful  feelings it is about not having control of a situation. To me not being in control, understanding the outcome, or not being able to create the desired outcome just shakes me to my core.

Today I am intentional facing my fear and doing something that scares me. Today I am releasing the control and trying to be obedient in what God has called me to do in this season. You see today Brian(my husband) and I launch our website for all the world to see. It is the first step of something that God has stirred in us. It is not our final destination but a part of the journey. God has laid on our hearts to help keep the Ragger Program going for generations to come and to even expand it. It’s a program that started at a YMCA camp back in 1914 that gave the campers opportunities to create individual goals and to celebrate goals achieved. The program is not just a one and done goal that one accomplishes, it is a program that continues to challenge you throughout your lifetime and even outside of camp.

As I am going through this season of unknown and what is to come, I love being reminded and inspired by people in the Bible. They help encourage me in my moments of struggle or celebration. I think of Abraham’s story when God called him to leave his country. Genesis 12:1 “The Lord had said to Abram. ‘Go from your country, your people, and your father’s household to the land I will show you.’ If not familiar with this passage God was calling Abram to leave everything he knew for the unknown. He did not give Abram his final destination but just told him to go and that he would bless him. Abram packed everything up and left. I am always amazed by Abram in this part of his story, because he had no idea where he was going or what he was going to do, but he heard God and obeyed him. So here I am, out of my comfort zone, moving forward not exactly sure what the final destination will truly look like, but I need to release control and trust in God as He takes us on this journey.  There is a line in the Ragger's Creed that says " I would be brave, for there is much to dare." It has been a challenge for me to start something new but I will be brave!
